Lewis is currently delighting and offending theatre-goers as Joseph Smith, Price's Dad, the Mission President, and (yes, that's right) Jesus among others in THE BOOK OF MORMON.

Last year he played many roles on many stages including Michael in I DO! I DO! opposite Tony nominee Kate Baldwin at the Westport Playhouse. He was part of James Lapine's original SONDHEIM ON SONDHEIM with Barbara Cook and Vanessa Williams for the Roundabout Theatre, and he starred as Bick Benedict in the world premiere of Michael John LaChiusa’s GIANT. Lewis also played El Gallo in the New York production of THE FANTASTICKS, directed by Tom Jones; and Lancelot in CAMELOT at the St. Louis Muny.

Broadway audiences applauded him in SPAMALOT as Sir Galahad, The Black Knight, and other zany characters, directed Mike Nichols; AMOUR; ONCE UPON A MATTRESS as Sir Harry with Sarah Jessica Parker; and SWINGING ON A STAR, for which he received a Drama Desk Award nomination.

Off-Broadway he played Gordon in A NEW BRAIN at the Lincoln Center Theater; Si Morley opposite Laura Benanti in TIME AND AGAIN for the Manhattan Theatre Club; and he played opposite Tyne Daley in CALL ME MADAM for City Center's Encores! He was also seen in the original cast of Big City Rhythm: The Songs of Barry Kleinbort.

Nationally he toured as Joe Gillis in SUNSET BOULEVARD opposite Petula Clark; Lt. Cable in SOUTH PACIFIC with Robert Goulet; and Sam in the Las Vegas company of MAMMA MIA! Mr. Cleale has played leading roles in more than 30 regional productions, including Giorgio in PASSION, for which he received the Helen Hayes Award; John Adams in the acclaimed production of 1776 at the Fords Theater in Washington, D.C., and Alfie in the Burt Bacharach musical WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS NOW, opposite Sutton Foster.

Mr. Cleale can be heard on many recordings including: Infinite Joy: The Songs of William Finn, Encores from Encores!, Adam Guettel’s Myths and Hymns, RCA/Victor’s Great Musicals, Call Me Madam (Broadway Revival cast), Amour (original cast), Once Upon a Mattress (1996 Broadway Revival), Swinging on a Star (original cast), Big City Rhythm: The Songs of Barry Kleinbort (original cast), I Love New York with Bryan Batt (original cast) and Sarah Zahn: Witch Craft.

He is a graduate of the University of Miami where he was named a Distinguished Alumnus.
